Sam leaned back against the brick rubble that used to be a wall of a Chinese food place. It gave him and Redwing the perfect view of the kids he'd bussed in that morning to help with the clean-up efforts. They were good kids for the most part, getting some community service through the Youth Center to put on applications to get them out of where they were from. Some of them though were...well they were teenagers on their own with just him and a couple other folks from the Youth Center and a couple were working off their community service sentence. None of them were angels in any way shape or form.
Still it ought to be hot enough already to keep them from too much mischief, and the other adults out here ought to be enough of a deterrent from them trying anything which meant Sam could sit and eat his dinner in peace.
Squirrel? Redwing offered

Stupid humans blind Redwing was almost kind in his assessment of human's inability to spot small details.
You can head home after this, the heat is awful, and we don't want anyone taking accidental pot shots at you Sam told him. You know how to trigger the latch to get inside. Someone ought to take advantage of the AC I bought.

"Gregory, don't make me call your mama!" Sam snapped out, and Greg stepped away from the adult he'd been about to ice. Greg lived in fear of him talking to his mama. Both because she'd still tan his hide and because she was single, and had flirted with Sam in the past.
